Beyond the Build: From Crafting at Speed to Crafting a Product

Chris Callaghan
Description

AI-powered assistants and vibe-coding tools have made it easier than ever for anyone to craft digital experiences and working software. But crafting at speed is not the same as crafting a product.

This hands-on workshop explores what it really takes to bring a digital product to life beyond the interface. Through a series of group activities, participants take a simple product concept and uncover the hidden decisions, systems, and dependency chains that sit around it, from acquisition, onboarding, and content strategy to analytics, feedback loops, operations, and evolution.

With digital experiences becoming easier than ever to create, this workshop focuses on what often gets overlooked in the excitement of designing and making. How will users discover your product? How will they understand its value? How will you gather feedback, measure success, and decide what to improve next? And what time, effort, and cost sit behind the choices you make?

Participants will leave with a practical framework for thinking beyond features and interfaces, helping them understand the broader product ecosystem and what it takes to transform working software into a product that people can discover, adopt, and gain value from.

The workshop is designed for UX practitioners, product designers, product managers, researchers, developers, and anyone involved in shaping digital experiences. Participants will work in small groups using provided templates and scenarios, so all that is needed is a willingness to collaborate, discuss ideas, and think beyond the interface.

Key takeaways

A practical understanding of what sits beyond the design and build of a digital product.
